Specialist Audience: work in a field in which they display expertise. Semi-specialist Audience: includes coworkers in other departments. Might include bosses, subordinates, or colleagues. Someone might be a semi-specialist based on their level of education or how long they have worked in a certain business, company, or corporation. Lay Audience: customers and clients who neither work for your company nor have any knowledge about your field of expertise are the lay audience. Communicating to a lay audience is difficult because they don’t know subject matter. Multiple Audience: Information is not always communicated to just one type of audience. Your report could be sent to several audiences. Multicultural Audience: creates challenges. Some countries require documentation be written in the local language. Each language version must be identical in content, readability, tone, style, and emphasis. 3. Assigning characteristics in your writing that pertain to a certain demographic. If your writing implies that men only do one kind of job and women do another kind, you are stereotyping. 4. Use gender neutral terms. 5. Avoid office documents that are impersonal and negative. The goals of a cover letter is to tell the reader up front what they are receiving and focuses the reader’s attention on key points within the enclosures. 16) When rewriting any letter, what ways do you make sure that you have made it reader-friendly? Does the letter have the essential components, a good introduction, discussion, page layout, organization, and conclusion? Is the letter clear and concise? Does it appropriately access the audience?             Seth Godin, the author of Tribes, defines a tribe as a group of people with a leader, and who are all connected by a common or shared goal and communication. Members of tribes must be truly committed to the tribe for the message to spread. The importance of the tribe is not number of members but amount of true fans.

If Godin were to analyze my English 304 class he would say that we were lead by our teacher, Bobby Rettew. He would say that our tribe has positive qualities, like the ability to change to status quo because of the unconventional teaching methods that are used. Also, the tribe’s ability to have ideas come from anyone in the class, not just the leader, is a positive. Although it might not be a positive yet, the tribe is learning how to use the Internet, a ‘lever’, to connect and expand the tribe. However, Godin would also see the negatives of our tribe. The class is a required course for many students to graduate with degrees in their certain fields, and it is possible some students would have little interest in taking the class if they could graduate in their major without it. Also, many in the class have a fear of criticism, or a bad grade, which is a major hindrance in the nurturing and spreading of ideas.

Godin worked for a company called Spinnaker that made educational computer games. Thorough a newsletter Godin connected with many in people who got on board and threw their support behind the project. Many of them helped on the projects Godin was leading, and the products became very successful after they were released thanks in large part to the tribe Godin created.

Tone, accuracy, presentation and clarity are all used in P3 communication and are important to the presentation of information to any audience.

My Plan

I would start an Italian fast food restaurant with $25,000. At present, the fast food industry has a lack of quick, tasty, and cheap Italian restaurants. The concept for the restaurant is centered around creating your own pasta. Upon ordering at the counter, the customer will choose from a variety of noodles that are already cooked and hot. As the customer makes their way from the beginning of the counter to the cash register, sauces, meats and other add ins are available to combine with the noodles. When the customer reaches the cash register their meal is already made. The noodles, sauces, meats and add ins are already warm because chefs in the back have already made them, and have cooked them recently so they are fresh. There are many advantages to contributing to this business endeavor. First, as the recent downturn in the economy has shown, many markets can be hurt by a fluctuating economy. However, fast food is not one of these industries. Second, Italian food has always been popular in the United States, yet there is little representation in the fast food industry. Contributing to this company would yield a great return on investment because this new idea in this stable industry would be successful.
